The main difference between active and passive transport is the use of energy during cell transport of materials.

Active transport requires chemical energy because it is the movement of biochemicals from areas of lower concentration to areas of higher concentration. Energy in the form of atp is required in active transport. On the other hand passive transport moves biochemicals from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration. Active and passive transport are biological processes that move oxygen water and nutrients into cells and remove waste products.

Active transport can be defined as the movement of molecules across the cell membrane pumping the molecules against the concentration gradient involving atp energy whereas passive transport can be defined as the movement of molecules within and across the cell membrane and through the concentration gradient without using atp energy. Active and passive transport are two important biological transport processes that help to move substances such as nutrients oxygen water and other macromolecules within the cell along with the elimination of waste products using different and contrasting mechanisms. The key difference between active transport and passive transport is that the active transport moves molecules from low concentration to high concentration against the concentration gradient via a semi permeable membrane while passive transport moves molecules along the concentration gradient from high concentration to low concentration. The main difference between active and passive transport is that active transport pumps molecules against the concentration gradient using atp energy whereas passive transport allows the molecules to pass the membrane through a concentration gradient requiring no cellular energy.

Passive transport is the biological phenomena of transporting soluble and small molecule down the concentration gradient. How is active transport different from passive transport. So it does not require energy. On the other hand passive transport moves molecules and ions from a higher concentration to lower concentration without any energy.
