The apostles creed is a variant of an ancient baptismal confession known as the old roman creed also roman creed or old roman symbol. The word catholic means relating to the church universal and was the word used in the original version of the creed. The holy spirit is what keeps the church active and productive. Just as he calls gathers enlightens and sanctifies the whole christian church on earth and keeps it with jesus christ in the one true faith.

The apostles creed was not written by the apostles. The apostles creed is used as an integral form of worship in many christian bodies. Rather it was written at least 150 years after the apostles had all died.
It does not mean the roman catholic church but the church the body of christ as a universal fellowship. The old roman creed is believed to have been created in accordance with jesus s command in matthew 28 19. Though not as the long current legend of its origin affirmed the direct work of the apostles it has its roots in apostolic times and embodies with much fidelity apostolic teaching. The creed attributed to the earliest missionary followers of jesus distills the basic outline of what it means to be a christian into a short summation that belies the depth and richness of what it proclaims.

In the apostles creed the holy catholic church there does not mean the roman catholic church it simply means the entire body of christ the communion of the saints all over the world. The apostles creed is the oldest creed and lies at the basis of most others. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit. But the holy ghost has called me by the gospel enlightened me with his gifts sanctified and kept me in the true faith.
The phrase he descended into hell was not part of the creed in its earliest form. What does this mean.
