Olivia Luz
Older children and adults often smile laugh talk or even scream while in the rem stage.
They do not have an emotional trigger but are usually nature s way for a baby to begin practising different skills. Most of all smiling during sleeping is always considered a good sign for every parent and for every baby s condition. Experts say it s similar to other actions a baby will do such as sucking. The baby s smile is a response to the dream.
Babies smile and sometimes even laugh in their sleep because of specific brain functions as a manifestation of endogenously determined physiological rhythms during the rapid eye movement rem state sleep the stage in which we dream 1. In fact reflex smiles may happen while the baby is in his mother s womb from 25 to 27 weeks of gestation. The sleeping smiles in newborns are only reflexes.
