As we study the bible we understand more and more of salvation and forgiveness.
Jesus himself said i am the way and the truth and the life. The bible provides many details regarding this sacrifice of jesus. We can for it is by grace you have been saved through faith and this is not from yourselves it is the gift of god not by works so that no one can boast obtain this. Jesus through his death paid for all our sins that we may receive by grace that entire god wanted to give us together with the salvation of our souls.

In this statement jesus declares the reason for his birth death and resurrection to provide the way to heaven for sinful mankind who could never get there on their own.
Consider this one phrase. Simply put without jesus death on the cross for our sins no one would have eternal life. When we say jesus died for our sins we are saying that he died because of our sins. There is no work or ransom payment that we need to do to be saved.
