What Would Happen If Everyone Jumped At The Same Time
Olivia Luz
To start the experiment.
The distance of the planet s movement would be less than the width of the most basic atom hydrogen and furthermore when everyone landed back on the ground earth would return to the same place. In fact the bbc did an experiment where it got a load of people to jump at the same time and the effect on the richter scales was measured. The best answer to what would happen if everyone jumped at the same time is that it would either be utterly anticlimactic or completely cataclysmic. In fact if we all jumped together we would move the earth only a tiny bit as in less than the width of a hydrogen atom as we took off.
They enlisted astrophysicist paul sutter at the ohio state university and physicist mark boslough at sandia national laboratories to help them think through the scenario. Either way it s probably not a great idea. Then as we all landed again returning to our same spot the earth would do the same return to the same spot it would have been in had we not jumped at all source. This means that by the time anyone took a calculation after landing on their feet they wouldn t be able to detect any difference from the way things were before.
