If someone pushes you away because of depression please do not take it personally. Sometimes people like me who tend to push others away do and say things we don t mean in an unconscious attempt to support the wall we ve created.
You are in a very tough situation and it may be important that you have someone to offer extra support to you and help you think about ways to take good care of yourself and to hold your ground re requiring your husband to access the help he needs. We can t understand why they are doing the things they are doing. Education on how depression works what depressed people think and react to is very helpful with patience not taking my behavior personally and extending empathy and acceptance to someone suffering from depression. Perhaps he needs someone to deliver a meal or maybe he d prefer to spend time with you without the expectation of a conversation or the need for entertainment.
We might get easily irritated and annoyed. We might lash out at those around us especially if they do things we don t expect or change things without warning. Loving someone with depression is almost as hard as having depression. Often times they believe that they don t deserve the love that their loved ones offer but in reality their love is probably what will help them out the most.

We re not inside their heads. Depression is no different and the key to helping your boyfriend through this without letting him push you away is to figure out what he needs you to do differently. Try to gain maintain perspective on depressed people s behavior.
