Save does not allow you to save to another file or format while save as does.
Save as leaves the original file unchanged. Save is quick and easy while save as adds another step and can take a couple of seconds more. So in conclusion the function save will make changes to your current file while the save as function will prompt you to name a new file with the original file and its changes. The save as function provides you with the ability to rename a file change its extension or create a new version a new file exclusive with the previous save.
