What Is The Difference Between Mechanical And Electromagnetic Waves

Mechanical vs electromagnetic waves.
Mechanical waves end electromagnetic waves are two types of waves discussed in physics. The types of mechanical waves can be both longitudinal waves and transverse waves but an electromagnetic wave could only be a transverse wave. As per the medium the waves can be differentiated as mechanical and electromagnetic waves. A wave is made of some type of disturbance that travels.
Electromagnetic waves are waves created by oscillating electric and magnetic fields. Waves can be divided using several methods. Mechanical waves are produced because of vibrations of the particles in the medium. On the flip side electromagnetic waves are produced by the fluctuating electric and magnetic fields.
Mechanical waves can propagate as longitudinal waves transverse waves or surface waves but electromagnetic waves can only propagate as transverse waves. Mechanical waves usually propagate through a substance while electromagnetic waves don t require to propagate through a medium is the difference between a mechanical wave and an electromagnetic wave. The difference between mechanical and electromagnetic waves is that mechanical waves are the oscillation of physical matters in which energy transfers through a medium and must need physical matters for propagation while electromagnetic waves is the wave of the electromagnetic field which carries electromagnetic radiant energy and propagates. One of the distinctions is based on whether disturbances in a wave need a medium to travel through. The main difference between mechanical and electromagnetic waves is that mechanical waves cannot travel without a medium and can harbor speed that is limited to the speed of the medium whereas electromagnetic waves can travel through a vacuum with the help of any medium and can travel at the speed of light. Mechanical waves are waves that are caused by mechanical actions such as vibrations. Depending on their properties we can classify waves into several different types.Source : pinterest.com
