What Is The Difference Between Incomplete Dominance And Codominance

In incomplete dominance neither of both the allele is dominant and give a new trait.

In codominance both the alleles present on a gene are expressed in the phenotype. Codominance is when the two parent phenotypes are expressed together in the offspring. Incomplete dominance is the condition when neither of the alleles is dominant rather combine and display a new trait by mixing of the two alleles. The core difference between codominance and incomplete dominance is that codominance is the appearance of both parental phenotypes in the offspring when a cross is done between two different phenotypes whereas incomplete dominance is the appearance of the third phenotype after a combination of parental phenotypes when a cross is done between two different phenotypes.

A flower showing codominance will have patches of red and white instead of a uniformly pink flower. An example is a white flower and a red flower producing pink flowers. The main difference between codominance and incomplete dominance is that in codominance a cross between individuals with two different phenotypes produces an offspring with a third phenotype showing both parental phenotypes together whereas in incomplete dominance a cross between individuals with two different phenotypes produces an offspring with a third phenotype which is a blend of the two parental phenotypes. The key difference between codominance and incomplete dominance is based on the expression of the traits in the offspring.

In codominance the offspring receive a combination of both parent genes whereas in incomplete dominance neither one of the parent genes expresses. Incomplete dominance is when the phenotypes of the two parents blend together to create a new phenotype for their offspring. Co dominance is the condition when both the alleles of a gene are dominant and the traits are equally expressed. Codominance signifies that no allele can block or mask the expression of the other allele.
