The difference between groundhog and woodchuck is only their name because one name can be used for the other.
These species belong to the same classification of animals and have got the same kind of appearance. Along with the other 14 marmot species woodchucks groundhogs belong to the same family as squirrels and prairie dogs. Woodchucks are primarily herbivorous but sometimes feed on insects and other small animals according to the availability of food. These animals are part of the sciuridae family which encompasses many land and tree rodents.
1 a groundhog is very similar to a woodchuck they are basically the same animal the only difference being the name. Hence the possibility of an economic damage would be high due to a habitation of groundhogs. The term woodchuck is derived from wuchuck an algonquian name for the animal.
