Mermaids are aquatic creatures while sirens are not. Siren mostly makes an appearance in art where negativity and horror is the theme. What is the difference between mermaid and siren. Both have fascinated poets for centuries.
Mermaids are shown as gentle and benevolent whereas sirens are believed to have evil intentions. A mermaid is a half woman half fish creature that lives in seas while a siren is a half woman half bird creature. Attraction sirens attract people with their voice. Mermaids have their representation in modern culture as beautiful and loving creatures.
Originally though these two creatures were two entirely separate myths. However that s pretty much where the resemblances end because as audobon points out while mermaids strictly live in the water sirens are bird women who soar across the air land and only sometimes the sea. Both have been a fascination in popular fiction literature for their beauty and alluring appearances. Mermaids find mention in the folklore and stories of all cultures and civilizations while sirens are found in greek mythology only.

They re inevitably a beautiful woman from the waist up and a fish from the waist down and they re noted for their enchanting singing voices. On the alternative hand siren is the beings who entice people with their voice and singing. Mermaids get thought about as half human and half marine creature.
