Cheetahs also have a tear line on their face that makes them easily distinguishable from leopards and other big cats. A leopard on the other hand has a more muscular build. Add the tail and the length of a cheetah increases by 24 to 33 inches while that of the leopard increases by 24 to 43 inches. Some differences between a cheetah and a leopard include their sizes shapes and spots.
Whilst a leopards face is covered in a continuation of their rosette pattern cheetahs are immediately identifiable by the black tear line that run from the inner corner of their eyes down to the sides of their mouths. Physical differences at first glance the cheetah and the leopard are different. These two cats are built for different hunting strategies. Cheetahs are known to hunt their prey during daytime whereas leopards generally hunt during the night.
Leopard has a present day natural distribution in the forests of both asia and africa but cheetah is predominantly an african carnivore according to their present distribution. The cheetah is stylized the fastest land animal that exists and has characteristic black marks on their face that go from the lacrimal to the snout at the level of the joint of their upper lips. Leopard is heavier and larger than cheetah. Difference between leopard and cheetah generally cheetahs have a more slender build as they chase and kill their prey.

Leopards and cheetahs are found in the same areas but as cheetah s speed is far more superior than leopard usually cheetah can leave the leopard to dust in the run chase. The first difference between a leopard and cheetah is their coat. Cheetahs have spots on their fur while leopards have rosettes that can be seen in the image given below. An adult cheetah can measure around 43 to 59 inches while an adult leopard is significantly larger measuring up to 65 inches and that is only the head and body length.
Leopards have yellow fur while cheetahs are tan. Being the fastest land animal on earth the cheetah needs to have a slender build so as to be streamlined and more efficient at running. As far as the appearances go the main difference between cheetah and leopard is in their body shape.
