Caption if the moon s up go take a look and see what color it is.
Even a full moon is 400 000 times less bright than the sun. The yellow colour is seen since yellow light is one of less scattered light as the light travels through the atmospheric particles. Yellow moon june s full moon is called the honey moon because of all the full moons of the year it is the one most likely to glow yellow throughout the night. When the moon appears orange or yellow it simply means that the observer is looking at it through more layers of atmosphere.
In june the sun is highest in the sky in the northern hemisphere so therefore the moon is lowest in the sky. It tends to have a more yellow or orange hue compared to when it s high overhead. Similar to the way in which the sun will look orange or red on the horizon when the moon is low in the sky the light from it will have to pass through more of the blue absorbing atmosphere to reach the viewer s eye. The scattering of reflected sunlight can result in different colours of the moon.
The moon appears mostly yellow at night and white during day time as we see from earth. The moon rarely if ever looks blood red pink or blue so what color is the moon. This happens because the moon s light travels a longer distance through the atmosphere. The cones are the only ones that sense colour but they need higher light intensities to work.

The yellow or golden or orangish or reddish color of the moon shortly after it rises is a physical effect which stems from the fact that when you see the moon low in the sky you are looking at it through a greater amount of atmosphere than when the moon is overhead.
